Turnoverball™ - Gooseneck Hitch

A hitch when you need it... a level bed when you don't. The B&W Turnoverball Gooseneck Hitch converts to a level bed in seconds.

Product details:

View Turnoverball Model Chart

  • Solid, machined 2 5/16" ball
  • Durable powder-coat finish
  • Only a 4" hole in the bed
  • Bolts to existing holes in the frame with no drilling or welding
  • Solid, one-piece machined receiver socket
  • Flexible latch pin handle attached to a spring loaded, 5/8" steel locking pin that goes completely through the ball
  • Limited Lifetime Warranty

Either way works fine.  If you have the spray in liner done after the Turnoverball is installed, you have the advantage of the liner covering the cut edges of the hole in the bed.

The great thing about having a square base in a round hole is that the dirt has a place to go.  How much grease is needed is a function of how much it is used and how dirty the environment.  If you notice that the grease coating on your ball is gone, it's probably time to apply more!

The Turnoverball will work with a Suspension Lift, but not with a Body Lift.  In order for our hitch to work properly, the distance between the bed and the frame must be maintained.  A body lift separates these components.

Our hitches are made to fit a particular year and make of truck and cannot be moved to a different make of truck.  In some cases, a hitch can be moved from an older to a newer truck of the same make.  B&W covers only the first installation under warranty.  Contact our installation department for more information, 1-800-248-6564.

Other companies can manufacture items and even market them to be used with B&W products, but that does not mean that they are endorsed by us or safe to use.  In addition, if these products cause ours to be used outside the 'normal use' of our product then it would void the warranty on ours.

To the best of our knowledge, Airlift and Firestone build an airbag system that is compatible with the Turnoverball for 2005 and newer trucks.

See Airlift's website at http://www.airliftcompany.com/ .

See Firestone's website at www.firestoneindustrial.com/riderite/ .

No. The latch pin system is designed to work by pulling the handle firmly outward until the spring is fully compressed, then rotating the handle clockwise about 1/8th of a turn. This locks the handle out so you can then turn the ball over. (See Image 1&2)

If the handle will not lock out using this procedure try troubleshooting with the following steps:

1. Pull the handle out and allow to pop back in 3-4 times to clear any debris from spring.

2.  From under the truck check to ensure latch pin handle is properly bolted to the latch pin. There is a square tab welded to the end of the 5/8" latch pin. This tab should point up towards the bottom of the bed, and the loop of the latch pin handle should be on the cab (front) side of the tab. (See Image 3)

3. After trying the two previous solutions, clip one (and only one) coil off the end of the spring. This may allow the spring to compress enough so the latch is operational.  (see pictures below)

If you have checked for proper installation and still have a problem, please call our installation department at 1-800-248-6564.

I can’t get my handle to stay out and it takes two people to operate, is this how it should work? I can’t get my handle to stay out and it takes two people to operate, is this how it should work? I can’t get my handle to stay out and it takes two people to operate, is this how it should work?

We have engineered the Turnoverball to be installed easily.  Because you don't have to remove the bed, weld, or drill through the frame, the installation basically consists of drilling a four inch hole in the bed and bolting the hitch parts to the frame.  Some users feel comfortable doing this themselves, but most consult one of our experienced dealers to do it for them.  Installation times vary with experience of the installer and availability of tools (such as a lift or impact wrenches).

Apply white lithium grease to the Turnoverball square post corners as needed to prevent seizing.
The Turnoverball can be installed in trucks equipped with the Rambox option. However, you will want to be mindful of the inside turning clearance of your trailer. When Ram installs the Rambox on their trucks, it narrows the inside of the bed significantly.
There are no model or parts numbers included on the Turnoverball. The best way to determine which model you have is to contact B&W and supply your truck make, model and year, a description of design details and photos of the side plate and center section. B&W can then assist you in identifying the unit.

As we all know, short bed trucks have become very popular trailer towing vehicles.  The short answer is, "yes, the Turnoverball can be installed on every full-sized truck on the market."  That said, it is very important that turning clearance is considered for every truck and trailer combination that will be used.

B&W offers a 4-inch extender that plugs into the receiver socket of the Turnoverball and moves the pivot point 4 inches rearward.

B&W also offers the Extend-A-Goose Coupler which offsets your trailer 10".

I have a short bed truck. Will the Turnoverball work with short beds? Even 5' 6" beds? I have a short bed truck. Will the Turnoverball work with short beds? Even 5' 6" beds?

The first thing to try is to soak the Turnoverball with penetrating oil for up to a few days. If that doesn't loosen it up enough to pull out easily, some light tapping around the ball with a hammer may pop it loose. Just keep in mind that it should be light tapping. You don't want to damage your hitch with heavy hammer blows. If your Turnoverball is still frozen in place, you may have to unbolt the center section from under the truck and have it pressed out. One thing you don't want to do is to use heat to try to free the hitch. Heating up metal can change its temper and strength characteristics.

You will definitely want to know what your truck’s rating is before undertaking any towing activity. While we would love to be able to help our customers with those figures, they vary not only based on Make, Model and Year, but also things like Engine Size, Type of Transmission and even Gear to Axle Ratios. Luckily, there are several places to learn about your truck’s tow rating.

1 – Check your owner’s manual. Most owner’s manuals will have something regarding a tow rating, even for passenger cars. What you may find is that some manufacturers will provide extensive information on important ratings, while others provide a bare minimum.

2 – If your owner’s manual doesn’t provide the information you need, or if what is in there proves to be confusing, contact your local truck dealer. They will usually have that information readily available, or will be able to find it quickly. Having your VIN number handy will help this process along.

3 – Check the manufacturer’s website for the make and model of your truck. If you’re looking at buying a new truck, most manufacturer’s websites will offer at least some figures. If you still can’t find the pertinent information on your own, usually there will be a combination of e-mail, telephone and live chat options where you can hopefully get a direct answer.

4 – There are numerous online sites with detailed information. Here is one site that offers a good range of information. It includes PDF copies of past issues of Trailer Life magazine. Locate your year, make and model of your vehicle to find tow ratings, along with other helpful ratings. A website search will provide other sources of information.

www.trailerlife.com/trailer-towing-guides

Put the back tires of your vehicle on a scale with your trailer fully loaded and unloaded. You would then subtract your empty load from your full load to get your vertical tongue weight.

Had a terrible wreck in which my horse trailer was hit by a speeding car. The trailer tore off my truck but the tongue stayed attached to my truck with a B&W Hitch! The ball and chains stayed put. Great product stands up to lots of force in the wrong direction.

Another PERFECT product. B&W is the best product in the 5th Wheel market PERIOD. Thanks B&W Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this product to a friend.

Love the hitch, but really hard to disengage for turnover
Review by Diana From Palmdale, California

I love this hitch but.... it is VERY hard to get the rod to pull and fully disengage the turnover ball when I want to flip the ball over. I'm tired of pulling the rod hard, then jumping in the back of the dang truck and being unable to pull the ball out. It takes me several tries. Two star due to warranty coverage.

I have one door my 2014 Ram 2500, and have had issues since it was installed. All of the reviews you read on this company's website are of course glowingly positive, what else would you expect on a company site. My turnover ball hitch was purchased with a companion 5th wheel hitch. I have removed the Companion one time in a year, the bed is covered when not in use, the nut for the Companion is torqued to specs, but the pin was not fully engaged so the pin got bent. B&W sent a redesigned handle which my dealer installed. Now one year later, neither the dealer or B&W will take any responsibility nor is it covered by warranty. I can't recommend this hitch.
Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this product to a friend.
No other hitch will do when it comes to protecting my family

Your hitch... what can I say. My wife and I are still here because of how it's made. On May 5, 2015 outside Jeffersonville Georgia, my wife and I were in a bad auto accident. I run a small hotshot rig and was pulling about 9000 lbs on a 35 foot gooseneck trailer. Running about 50 mph, suddenly and w/o warning, a large 5500 truck turned across my lane. The wreck was captured on his dash cam. I could not stop and hit him t bone. The load pushed me and the gooseneck bent. It tried to break free but the hitch did not let go. It bent the bed, frame, trailer sleeve, but never did it free itself and come through the cab. Thus we walked away thanks to B&W's hitch strength and design. When I get a new truck it will have a B&W hitch.

FROM PURCHASE TO PULLING BEST PRODUCT EVER!!!
Review by Jeff Downey From Crossville , TN
Posted on 04/16/2015
Best product ever from purchase to pulling. Originally went to purchase just a gooseneck plate for my new truck, went to a local store and the guys at 1 stop automotive informed me they only do the B&W for their gooseneck installs. When i asked why they said cause they only installed tried and tested brands and ones they back-up and that this one was best on the market. He seemed to know what he was talking about so i let them go ahead and install. SO GLAD I DID, AMAZING PRODUCT, GREAT SERVICE SIMPLY AMAZING 5stars
Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this product to a friend.

best thing ever. I pull a 580l seriesII backhoe that weighs just shy of 8 tons and my trailer is about 3.25 tons. I lift my back wheels off the ground every time I load or unload as it is a steep trailer. Never bent no bar the man that said that must not got it all the way threw the hitch or something. I would replace that part and try one more time just see what fluke it was. This is my third truck with this system and it is used almost daily.I think this is the best GN system ever and it can be out of the way in the matter of seconds. My current truck has 228,000 miles on it. I bet 180,000 was towing on the same ball when I bought it. Great product love it two thumbs up.
Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this product to a friend.

The best hitch I have used yet I just wanted how awesome this hitch is I pull a 35 foot 5th wheel and have always used a traditional 5th wheel hitch and rails but after buying the turnoverball and 5th wheel companion from Top Notch Trailer Services here in Albuquerque I have no doubt that this will be in every one of my trucks from now on thank you B&W for making an amazing easy to use product!

NOT WORTH THE MONEY
Review by TED FREDRICH From NAVASOTA, TX

This is first B & W hitch that I have had and will never get another one. This one is coming out as soon as I can get the ball out. The rod that holds the ball bent when I loaded my tractor on my trailer. I want one the screws in so when the back of my truck comes off the ground I do have to worry about that happening again.
Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this product to a friend.

I am sold on B&W Hitches, I'll never own anything else
Review by Jimmy Williams From Crosby, TX
Posted on 03/05/2015
I bought the B&W Turnover Ball because of the custom rail kit and easy bolt in installation. I bought a 4" hole saw and arbor to bore the hole. I followed the video tip on etrailer.com which suggested boring a hole in a piece of plywood and using it as a guide to keep the hole saw from walking around and sawed a perfect hole. This hitch fit like a glove and was very painless to install. it looks great and leaves the bed fully usable when I'm not towing. The fact that B&W knows what they're doing and puts a lot of thought into the product was apparent from the time I unpacked it until I finished the install.
Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this product to a friend.

I just had the B&W Turnover system installed in my 2011 3500 Dodge. Had one in a 2006 Dodge 3500 and also purchased the Companion 5th wheel hitch. NO WAY to go wrong with this setup. Best on the market!!! Plus they're made in my neighboring state lol. In the good ol' USA.

I bought a new Ford truck with a factory hitch. They should stick to trucks. I miss my B&W Turnover. It was always there when I needed it, not under or behind the seat, or rolling around in the bed of my truck. The installation of my old B&W was GREAT!! Mouser Steel installed it. Close tolerance on the holes, the poor attempt by Ford left a 1/2" gap all around. If it wouldn't leave 4 big holes in my bed would change it to B&W. B&W Turnover - A great idea, built great, installed to perfection
Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this product to a friend.

Looks good and I am sure it will perform as well, but it isn't complete without wiring to connect your trailer.
You'll get a ticket in my state. I looked over the options and seen none.
My last hitch I had put on my 85 Chevrolet came with one but it was several years ago and not a B&W got home and no connections, now I have to run it in town again and get it done.

Great Hitch!

He B&W hitch is the strongest and safest gooseneck hitch on the market. This is my second hitch and I purchased the companion 5th wheel hitch to pull my 5th wheel RV. Works great with my stock trailers and RV. The best thing is "no more rails in the bed" like some other manufacturers. Thanks B&W.
Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this product to a friend.

Great hitch, well built. Had the authorized dealer install it even though the reviews says it was easy. The guy probably installs these every day, he cut clean holes in the bed and really made it look great. If it rusts and peels like someone said it will I will just put some POR15 chassis coat on it and it will blend right in. Thanks B&W.

Review by Matt Scarff From Forest Hill
Posted on 05/05/2014
I am on my second B&W Turnoverball hitch and my brother is on his second as well. I love how robust the hitch is built and the way it
functions. I used mine in conjunction with a Companion fifth wheel hitch.
My only complaint (which has been ignored by B&W on both hitches) is that the powder coat finish on the mounting plates is of extremely poor quality and will flake and peel within months of installation. I currently have a three year old hitch that is an eyesore because the visible mounting plates have lost their coating and are rusty. I went with this hitch on a second truck only because I already owned the Companion hitch and this was the most economical way for me to go. For my next truck, I will sell the Companion and go with Ford's factory 5th/goose system.
Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this product to a friend.

I've had the Turnoverball in my last 3 trucks. I'm not mechanical in the least, but I installed all 3 myself. I also have the Tow & Stow and Companion. B&W makes quality items and I will not buy another brand of trailer hitch. I've never had the need for their customer service, but I've had a couple friends who told me it is top notch. Keep up the good work.

I've had these hitches on my trucks for the last 15 yrs. They are great-pull a Fifth wheel with the Companion too and that is a simple and solid way to pull. Bought a Cummins 2005 recently and had the hitch installed. Only problem is that the latch release hits the bed flange coming out.

We have been installing your product onto our customers trucks for about 10 years now. We used to carry about 3 different 5th wheel hitches but have now dropped them all to carry the B&W exclusively. The product is well researched, bolts right on (engineers have done their homework) and we don't have problems with installation or performance. Customer service is top notch, you can call your 800 number and everyone there that answers the phone knows your products top to bottom. Kudos on a stellar American made product.
Keep up the good work.

WOW this hitch is tough!!
Review by Scott Sharber From Murfreesboro, TN
Posted on 07/15/2013
This hitch was without a doubt the best, toughest, and most quality built product I have ever purchased for my truck. It is EXTREMELY strong, is built to exacting dimensions, and hugs the frame so tight it actually has made my truck worth more AND safer. The frame holes all lined up perfectly, installation went exactly as the instructions stated, and I am extremely satisfied with it. I recently saw a truck that flipped while pulling a trailer when it blew out a tire and ran off into a deep ditch, and the hitch actually kept the frame from being bent where the 1108 was installed. The frame of this thing is extremely tough and very thick, and I was truly impressed with it's attention to details in it's build. There are no shortcuts or weaknesses in this thing and if I ever have to sell my truck, you can bet the first thing I'll be installing on my new one is one of these babies. 110% satisfied and impressed!!

Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this product to a friend.
